Hidria Concludes a New 21 Million Contract with VW

Early this year, the German Volkswagen Group nominated the Hidria Corporation to develop and supply essential parts for the new V6 and V8 petrol engines that VW will start building into premium Audi, Bentley, Porsche and Volkswagen vehicles in 2015.

Valued at EUR 21 million, the contract is a testament to Hidria’s competences in the field of high performance internal combustion engines, while also rounding off the record number of nominations that Hidria has seen in the last year.

Since 2005, Hidria has been making its way to the very top of the European and global market, establishing a reputation as a leading company for solutions in the fields of internal combustion engines, electric propulsion systems and steering systems. Hidria is the exclusive supplier of essential steering system parts for premium brands (Audi A6, Audi Q5, BMW Series 5 and 6 and Porsche 911, as well as the Mercedes E and Jaguar XF from 2015), while also covering over 15% of the global demand in the field of cold-start systems for diesel engines. The company has provided solutions for electric propulsion aggregates used in the manufacture of the world's first diesel hybrid car, the Peugeot 3008, as well as a number of other hybrid and electric vehicles of premium brands, including the exclusive Mercedes e-SLS and the Porsche Spyder 918 hybrid.

Based on this track record, the VW Group chose Hidria to develop and, by 2016, to commence the serial production of lids for the overhead camshaft to be built into every new VW V6 and V8 engine. These hi-tech parts will be manufactured in the Hidria plant in Koper. This contract makes Hidria the exclusive supplier of these engine parts. The first test vehicles to implement Hidria’s solutions will be produced next year.

The contract has been concluded thanks to the competence of the Hidria experts, who have been working with the VW development teams in the earliest stages of concept design for new solutions. A major benefit of Hidria’s new hi-tech solution is its environmental aspect – something that the company is particularly focused on and in keeping with our mission. Compared to the existing engines, the new V6 and V8 engines will offer a considerably better performance while using significantly less amount of fuel, thus making an important contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
